Armies of the Crimean War

Whilst SWMBO is out at church, some Google surfing turned up this bargain whilst I was looking for info on Russian uniforms for the Crimean War:

I have his book on the Wars of Italian Unification, which although a bit of a dry read, it is a superb resource, especially for those like me who enjoy some ImagiNations games and armies. So when I saw this book on the Crimea, which also appears to cover European Armies of the mid-19thC, I had no hesitation in ordering it. I'm sure it will be useful not only for my planned 'Roosians', but also for my 'existing' armies. Now I just have to wait for the postman...

    1. I hope it is Jon! However, Paypal has decided to investigate the purchase further as stated below:

"As part of our security measures, we review certain payments more closely to ensure our platform is being used properly and to minimise the potential risk for us and our customers."

I've never had this before, so not sure if it's due to having 'Crimean War' in the title or not...

    1. If and when I receive it Richard, I shall endeavour to put up a review. Let's hope Paypal actually see it's nothing to do with the current conflict in that region...

  3. Looks like a good book Steve...the anecdote about Pay Pal is interesting too...particularly if you are correct about the reason they are looking at your purchase more closely!

    1. It does look good Keith and if it's as good as his Italian Unification one, I shall be very happy. As for the reasoning, naturally I can only speculate...

    1. I hope so too, but the Naval & Military Press, despite sending me an order confirmation, still say I have an item in the shopping basket, possibly due to the Paypal delay...

    3. That's very kind of you Iain and thanks for the offer, but with this book and some others, I'm pretty well covered, especially as it is mainly an ImagiNations force I will be constructing.

  5. If you keep buying things while she is at church then eventually she’ll insist that you attend as well.
Better kept the purchases small and hidden. ๐Ÿ˜€

    1. Churches are for weddings and funerals as far as I'm concerned Stew! Luckily 10mm purchases are small and the books can be hidden in plain sight on the bookshelf๐Ÿ˜‰!

    1. A period that seems to have gained traction last year Stu. The book should be good inspiration and the payment has finally been processed, so looking forward to getting my grubby mitts on it!

  9. Interesting! Shouldn’t mention the words ‘Crimean’ and ‘War’ together. I just did but I think I got away with it.

  10. That looks a nice book Steve. Esposito is certainly prolific and a fair few of his books are off-the-beaten-track about relatively obscure wars/campaigns.
    Cheers,

    1. He does appear to be prolific, but fairly new to me as an author. Always nice to see more obscure wars getting attention, although the Crimean War could hardly be called obscure, but one that has gained more traction this part year or so.
