Blogger Issues

For some reason unbeknownst to me, Blogger has suddenly stopped sending me email notifications of replies to comments made on other peoples Blogs. In the normal scheme of things, I would make a comment, which would then appear in my email inbox: ditto replies from other Bloggers and from the Blogger themselves. But as of yesterday that all stopped. I've absolutely no idea why as there is no rhyme nor reason to it. I haven't changed anything to the best of my knowledge. One moment there were 28 spam messages waiting from Norm Smith's Blogs and then nothing.

So apologies should anyone be expecting a reply to a comment made on your Blog etc, as short of having to check them all again, I've no way of knowing if this is required of me. To say I'm a tad annoyed about the whole thing is a bit of an understatement. Hopefully it will be sorted soon, but I'm not holding me breath...

Despite this technical glitch, stuff is going on in the background wargames wise, but real life is preventing me getting any games in, despite having one ready to go as it were, which has been the case for over a week now. As SWMBO is out tonight, maybe I can get the game set up to play tomorrow...

TTFN.

  1. Well Steve, I hope you either get this sorted or find a suitable work-around.

    1. I hope so too Jon! At least your comment appeared in my Inbox, so at least that's a positive step in the right direction. Let's see if this now appears there...

  2. I must admit, the notify e-mail thing continually pinging all the time would anoy me, more-so, when someone is sharing their spam๐Ÿ™‚

No doubt some hard working engineer is trying to work out how the last update has managed to break something๐Ÿ™‚ with luck, it should come out in the wash. Hope it gets sorted soon, there are not really any viable alternatives to what we do.

    1. I used to get updates almost per reply, but then they seemed to move to batch notifications, which were certainly less annoying, although not a big issue for me with 10 comments per Blog post being a lot!

I do hope it gets sorted soon, as being a stuck at home parent/carer, it is one way of keeping in touch with the world and other gamers, which helps keep me sane! A quick check showed some others have had problems akin to this these past few days, so fingers crossed some engineer is hard at work...

  3. Hi Steve. I’ve not noticed anything, but then I only get notifications when someone makes a comment on my blog, never when I comment on others’ nor when the blog host replies.

    1. It only appears to affect others Blog posts and replies Chris from what I've seen so far...

    1. Fingers crossed Mark! I just wish they wouldn't send your comments to my Spam folder, even when I've marked them not as Spam and approved them:(. Logical? I think not...

  5. Steve -
I didn't know you could get email notifications of replies to one's blog. I don't recall I ever have. I just remember the numbers on the page, and if any look different I'll check whether new comments have come in. A regular check for the spam (not always spam) and awaiting moderation - every few days - picks up several. Where I do miss is when there is a comment upon a blog entry from several weeks or more ago. It can be a very long time before I find them...
    Cheers,

    1. IIRC you can set this up under the Settings tab on Blogger Ion. For me it just makes it much easier to keep tabs on things.

  6. I am with Ion - and I do go back to other blogs to see if a reply to my comment warrants another comment from me - but of course, this is all rather haphazard as I need to have time and inclination to do all the checking, so I am sure I miss some occasionally!

    1. That's the reason I did the email notifications thing Keith, so that I didn't have to check back. The downside is that you can get lots of emails, especially if it's full of spam comments:(!

  7. I don’t have a blog of my own, but do follow/watch a fair few others. I don’t get anything notifying me that those blogs have an update so, effectively, have to trawl through the blogs to see if any have been updated since I last checked. It’s not an immense problem - more of a hassle. I do know which blogs get updated regularly and which are updated less so.
I hope you get your notification problem resolved. And, that you manage to get your game played tonight.
FWIW - I worked my last day yesterday. Today is just time to return the laptop and then I will be a “gentleman of leisure” - albeit my state pension doesn’t kick in till mid May. I’m hoping to get a lot, lot more games played. ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ˜Š
    Cheers,
    Geoff

    1. I check my Reading List on Blogger several times a day, where it will show the latest Blog posts. For some reason they do not always show up at the same time, so you check back and a 'new' one had popped up in between previous posts. I think you can subscribe to receive notifications of new posts rather than replies, but don't quote me on that!

At least I now know it's not just me that's been affected and I have received some 'normal' replies, but from recent posts.

Still 6 1/2 years before my State Pension kicks in I'm afraid and even then, it will be a frugal lifestyle like it is now. Sadly no final year salary schemes or even average earnings for me, otherwise I'd be living the life of Riley:)! Now you will be a gentlemen of leisure, high time you set up a Blog!

    3. Blogger seems to be increasingly clunkly of late; it seems to interact with other Google settings in quite erratic ways.

    4. Still barely getting any notifications to comments I've made on Blogs:(.

    5. @ Elliesdad - retirement? The best thing I ever did. Just a shame I had to wait until I could afford it. Enjoy!
